Ohio to Erie Trailapalooza
We are celebrating 35 miles of fun with the Ohio to Erie Trail in Knox County. Join the Knox County Park District, City of Mount Vernon, Knox County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, and the Heart of Ohio Trail Board as we celebrate the paving completion of the last segment of trail linking Knox, Licking and Delaware counties.
Many events will be sponsored at various trailheads throughout the day. A ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Newell Recreational Preserve (5875 Twp. Highway 51, Centerburg) to recognize the completed trail extension. Additional activities will take place at the Midway Welcome Station of the Ohio to Erie Trail in Centerburg from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Kids bicycle safety demonstrations and rides will take place each hour from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. For more information on the Heart of Ohio Trail Board activities, visit their website at www.heartofohiotrail.com/events
Two bicycle rides will also be available for participants to register, for more information on the ride from Centerburg to Newell Recreational Preserve at 9:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m., visit https://www.meetup.com/Heart-of-Ohio-Cyclopaths/events/285616046/. The second featured ride is from noon to 3:00 p.m. from Memorial Park to the CA&C Depot and information can be found at https://www.meetup.com/Heart-of-Ohio-Cyclopaths/events/285616154/ Signed waivers will be required for each ride.
Knox Area Transit will be offering rides from Mount Vernon to Centerburg. Bikers can board the shuttle at the CA&C depot in Mount Vernon and be dropped off at Memorial Park in Centerburg. Rides will also be from Centerburg to Mount Vernon and Mount Vernon to Gambier. The service will be offered at 10, 11, 12 and 1:00 p.m.
Food trucks, music and giveaways will be featured from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the CA&C Visitor’s Center, 501 S Main Street, Mount Vernon. The Knox County Park District will provide an informational table with maps, brochures and rack cards. The Knox County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau will also be represented.
