Do you like to fish? Compete in Youth Tournament #3 as it will be a two-day contest during Ohio’s Free Fishing weekend! What is “free fishing?” This is is the only weekend in Ohio that a fishing license is not required to fish on public waters. We had such a successful program last year hosting these virtual youth tournaments that we have set our schedule for 2022. Our tournaments will be held once a month from April-August for youth ages 7-18. The tournaments are ran through an app called Fish Donkey. We invite you to download the app and register to participate in this fun event. We are limiting the tournament to 25 entries per division and you MUST fish a body of water in Knox County. This tournament will be a two-day one run from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. each day. To register for the youth division, you must be 7-18 years of age. The adult division is ages 19+ We hope you will join us!

To view the tournament details, rules and how to register, please visit the link below. In order to participate you must have a mobile device and download the Fish Donkey app. We are very excited to work with the developers of this app as we provide a unique tournament series. This program is provided to each participant free of cost as the Knox County Park District and our friends the Payne-Campbell Group of Red 1 Realty are sponsoring the tournament prizes.

Our park provides Wolf Run Park pond while Ariel Foundation Park provides several lakes and do not forget about the Kokosing River! If you do fish the lakes at Ariel Foundation Park, please consider recording the fish you caught by completing their fish survey at the bottom of the page. Also provided below is a Fish ID list of those species found in the main stem of the Kokosing River and their locations. This information is being provided by Brian Zimmerman, OSU River Ecologist and Research Associate with The Ohio State University. Another program for you to become involved with is the Fish Ohio initiative. This program recognizes anglers for noteworthy catches of Ohio’s fish and is offered through the Ohio Division of Wildlife. Participants will receive with a qualifying catch a collectible Fish Ohio pin. Each year a pin will include a different Ohio species along with the year. One is given per angler per year.
