Kokosing State Scenic River
Hope Fishing Access

Hope Fishing Access was named for Hope Tumidanski, who, with her husband, Ed, sold this important riparian area at below market price to the park district in 2006. The acquisition of the site would not have been possible without the financial assistance of the Community Foundation of Mount Vernon and Knox County.

There are over 50+ fish species located in the Kokosing State Scenic River. Many of those include; various Chubs such as the Creek and Bigeye Chub, various Redhorse species from the Smallmouth Redhorse to the Golden Redhorse and typical Sunfish from the Redear Sunfish to the Bluegill. The Kokosing River is known primarily for the abundant amount of smallmouth bass throughout the entire main stem of the river from Mount Vernon to the confluence at Walhonding. For more information on the species found throughout the Kokosing River, click on the link above and download the Fish ID checklist specific to the River Access points and their locations. This checklist was a collaborative effort with Brian Zimmerman, OSU Research River Ecologist and the Knox County Park District.

The site is located at Pipesville Road behind the baseball fields and Knox County wellfield, and a mowed path leads to the Kokosing River. Along the path, visitors will notice 2,000 young hardwood saplings, planted to restore the riparian habitat along the river.

No development is planned for the site. This site is about a mile upstream (one-quarter mile by road) of the developed Pipesville Road Canoe Access located at 12059 Pipesville Road Howard 43028, making it a good spot for fishing and floats.
